The Palmer House, a Hilton Hotel, is a landmark in downtown Chicago. The hotel was originally built in 1871 as a grand gesture by Potter Palmer to his wife Bertha. Though it fell victim to the Great Chicago Fire just days later, the hotel was successively rebuilt and now stands as the longest-operating hotel in North America.
